Mark Buffery FCA, AIIT

Mark Buffery

Mark qualified as a chartered accountant with Thomson McLintock in London in the dark ages (1985). Having worked in industry and back at KPMG as the firm went on to be called, Mark then set up his own practice in the leafy corner of London that is Wimbledon. Mark’s clients cover a broad spectrum including over the years banks, insurance companies, corporate finance boutiques, property companies along with a wide range of businesses as well as private individuals. Mark is an all round generalist with particular expertise in indirect tax (VAT and Customs duties). Mark was recently appointed as fee paid member of the new Tax Tribunals.

Mark is a keen tennis player and enjoys skiing. Most other sports are appreciated from the relative safety of his armchair. Mark is married with two children and currently enjoying a reverse commute to Henley from Wimbledon. The family plan to relocate next year once schooling allows.


Kevin Cox

Kevin Cox, FCCA

Kevin qualified in 2003 and has been with the practice for 10 years. A generalist with experience in audit, accounts preparation and personal and company tax, Kevin is also responsible for meeting new clients. Kevin has continued to develop his qualifications and was granted FCCA status this year. In his spare time Kevin enjoys reading and most sports particularly football as a keen amateur player and indeed as a committed season ticket holder and supporter of Reading FC.


Lucy Watson

Lucy Watson, FCA

Lucy qualified first as a chartered accountant and then specialised in tax, becoming a chartered tax adviser some 12 years ago. She trained with one of the larger firms (now BDO) in London and then moved to Oxfordshire. Alongside setting up and running a day nursery for her (then) two young children she continued working in tax and was made tax partner in a local 7 partner firm of Chartered Accountants in 2003. She now acts as a consultant for Buffery & Co and also works independently on her own account and for various charities - for Sheltered Housing, for socially excluded young people, and for music groups.


James Woods

James Wood, ACCA

James joined the practice in the summer of 2003 and gained his ACCA qualification in January 2008. James deals with accounts preparation, personal tax returns and company formations. In his spare time James enjoys most sports particularly football and hockey and has completed two half marathons, and he claims a full marathon in wine drinking!


Paul Rushworth

Paul Rushworth - ACCA

Paul decided to change careers having started out on an altogether different path with a degree in engineering. Paul qualified as an accountant in 2008. Within the office Paul deals with the broad spectrum of accountancy tasks such as accounts preparation, VAT returns, payroll and tax returns.

Paul has a wide variety of interests including sport, music, film and literature. He has recently spent time cycling and kayaking around the Dorset coastline.


Tracy Boylin

Tracy Boylin

Tracy joined the practice in February 2008. Tracy has previously worked as a business studies teacher in Canada and in the UK. Having recently completed her final accountancy exams Tracy is a generalist and works on accounts preparation and company returns and also on the personal tax side.

In her spare time Tracy enjoys tennis, golf and skiing and spending time with her family.


Peter Willers

Peter Willers

Peter spent three years as a teacher before deciding to change careers. Peter joined the practice in 2005 and is assisting with accounts, VAT returns and payroll and working towards his qualifications. In his spare time Peter enjoys travelling, walking, cycling and water-sports.


Karen Bennett

Karen Bennett

Karen is responsible for book keeping, accounts and software support/training and is a Quickbooks adviser. In her spare time Karen coaches synchronized swimming and is currently training for a triathlon.


Marian Dunster

Marian Dunster – Practice PA

Marian has extensive experience, working at first in the London offices of the accountancy firm Peats, and then moving into the legal profession before returning to accountancy with Joan Bennett in 1980s. She remains with the practice to assist Mark Buffery. Marian has a variety of interests including the Arts, keeping fit and travel.


Jean Pook

Jean Pook

Jean performs vital administrative tasks for the practice. She has worked for JMB now Buffery & Co for the past eight years. Jean lives in Henley and enjoys spending time with her family.


Consultants

Joan Bennett – FCCA

Joan founded JMB Accounting in 1983 upon returning to work once her family was complete. Joan is looking forward to having more time to devote to her hobbies which include bridge, rowing, bell-ringing and spending time with her grandchildren.


David Cohen – FCA

David although now retired, was for many years a sole-practitioner in Surrey. He gained particular expertise in personal tax, particularly Capital Gains Tax, and remains a valuable resource should the need arise.
